What to Expect at the Baptism Service 

CELEBRATION OF BAPTISM

Minister: Sisters and Brothers, let us celebrate God’s gift of grace given to us in the sacrament of baptism.

People: There is one body and one Spirit; we have one hope in Christ.

Minister: There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God, Creator of us all.

People: Out of the water of baptism we rise with new life, forgiven, renewed, and one with Christ, members of Christ’s body.

Profession of Faith and Promises

Minister: Do you believe in God, who has created and is creating, who has come in Jesus, the Word made flesh, to reconcile and make new, and who works in us and others by the Spirit?

Parents: I do, by the grace of God.

Minister: Desiring the freedom of new life in Christ, do you seek to resist evil, and to live in love and justice?

Parents: I will, God being my helper.

Minister: Will you follow the ways of Jesus Christ?

Parents: I will, God being my helper.

Minister: Will you join with your brothers and sisters in this community of faith to celebrate God’s presence, live with respect in creation, and love and serve others?

Parents: I will, God being my helper.

Ministers: Will you share your faith with your child growing with them in faith, hope, and love?

Parents/Sponsors: I will, God being my helper. 

(Congregation stands) 

Minister: Let us pledge to these persons our support and care.

Congregation: As a baptized and baptizing people, we commit ourselves to support and uphold you with the community of faith.

Minister: May God grant us all the grace to live out our baptism. 

All: Amen. 

Minister: Let us remain standing to profess our faith together...

All:     We are not alone,             

  We live in God’s world.

  We believe in God:  

          who has created and is creating,

                     who has come in Jesus, the Word made flesh,

                     to reconcile and make new,

                     who works in us and others by the Spirit.

             We trust in God.

             We are called to be the Church:

to celebrate God’s presence,

to live with respect in Creation,

to love and serve others,

to seek justice and resist evil,

to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen,

our judge and our hope. 

    In life, in death, in life beyond death,

    God is with us.

    We are not alone.
